There’s never been a better time to create your own holiday capsule wardrobe. The key to a good holiday capsule wardrobe is versatility with mix and match summer staples and timeless holiday hero pieces.
Firstly, check if your accommodation has a washing machine. This is great for all the family; we often find that some items become “favourites” on holiday, due to comfort, keeping cool or covered up. A quick midweek wash with lovely sunny drying weather means you can pack a little less.
Forget the idea of doubling up on day to night clothing. It sounds great but in theory do you really want to wear the same item of clothing you were sightseeing in (wearing suncream) and then wear for dinner?
Also resist the temptation to pack all your summer favourites, and try and stick to 3 – 4 colours that work together. This is when a collapsible rail becomes invaluable so you can easily see what works together and stops you overpacking. Don’t forget to add accessorise and shoes next to your rail.
Look for fabrics in natural fibres to help keep you cool.
The “WOW” Holiday Dress
We’re often a little bolder with our holiday clothing, a chance to wear something different to stand out in your holiday photos.
An Aztec Dress is the must have dress for your summer. This embroidered dress is the perfect summer essential with a relaxed fit, it will take you from sightseeing and shopping to an alfresco lunch or dinner.
The Chic Evening Dress
For a memorable night out, you want to look and feel great. You also want to feel comfortable; a beautiful turquoise & gold or ivory dress has a shimmering golden embellished print in a lovely lightweight fabric, so floaty and cool with special touches to make these dresses stand out in a crowd.
Wear with wedge sandals or jewelled flip flops, a timeless dress so easy to wear.
The Easy-to-wear Day Dress
Say hello to relaxed summer styling with an easy to wear summer dress that is cool, light and comfortable. Easy to slip on and can be worn anytime. With a loose fit, this is a great shape to wear when the temperature rises and is an effortless outfit for sightseeing, shopping or drinks out.
Comfortable T-Shirts
Effortless but stylish, a gold star t-shirt can be worn as a layering piece and will elevate linen trousers for evening looks or add a chic touch to denim shorts during the day.
Wide-leg Trousers
A pair of wide-leg trousers are always a great option for holidays, perfect for travelling in or for wearing in the evening. For comfort, choose a smart elasticated waist (with a flat front waistband) or a drawstring design.
Cheesecloth trousers are light, cool and floaty. Wide leg with an elasticated waist and matching fabric belt. Fabric that doesn’t crease and a range of interchangeable tops and shirts to create a variety of looks.
Day to Night Top
A cool and airy top is a versatile piece to wear day or night. Wear to the airport with a jacket or wrap and trousers, and they are so easy to dress up with accessories and a skirt in the evening. A cheesecloth style top doesn't crease and looks great with the matching trousers.
Light Jacket or Cardigan in a Neutral Colour
Perfect to travel in, especially if you have an early morning or evening flight for a comfy but chic airport look. Look for a jacket in a neutral colour such as cream, taupe or beige to wear over a variety of outfits.
Here are a couple of good examples: Women's Jacket Lightweight Field Safari Coat and Lock and Love Women's Casual Military Anorak Jacket.
Cashmere Scarf or Wrap
An investment hero piece that has the ability to keep you cool in summer. Choose a colour that will compliment your outfits, neutrals in creams, greys and blues.
Cashmere is made from natural fibres, and has that rare ability to regulate temperature. In winter, it’ll hold in your body heat to keep you snug and cozy; in summer, it does the opposite, helping you keep your cool even as the temperatures soar.
Before you buy it is worth checking the ply-count. a two-ply cashmere will keep you as warm as toast- a single-ply, is lighter, eminently breathable, and more suited to warm summer days. Good examples are Love Cashmere Ladies 100% Cashmere Wrap Scarf and Dalle Piane Cashmere Wrap.
Comfy Sandals
It’s worth investing in a pair of flat sandals with some support and cushioning for sight-seeing trips and evening strolls. Choose a neutral colour in tan, grey or metallic that will go with everything in your suitcase, like these: Moda In Pelle Women's Nadya Off White Leather Flatform Sandals.
For the evening, I would again suggest a metallic pair in gold, silver or pewter or a pair of espadrilles, which always look chic. Avoid any that have straps that will rub and very thin soles. Good options are: Pavers Ladies Embellished Toe Post Sandals or Gabor Women Sandals.
Trainers
Choose a pair that work with trousers as well as skirts and dresses. Perfect for that long walk to the airport gate or if you fancy going for hike in the countryside. A couple of pairs that would be perfect are: XTI Women's 140125 Sneaker and Gabor Women Trainers.
